Well hello,We finally made it through our 3 day airport madness to arrive Bangkok. The home of clean air and traffic free streets... not! We now both sound like we have been smoking 60 fags a day since birth. We headed to the Sukhumvit area and arrived at the Soi 1 guesthouse. After walking up endless staircases only to find this young Thai punk with huge yellow sunglasses in a dark room, we were told that only 12 person dorm rooms were available. So it was a quick reverse back to the main street to find something a little less scary. Next stop The Golden Palace! nothing golden or palace like about it, but the rooms were clean, large, great beds with a private bathroom and..... wait for it...... a shower with shower cubicle!!! This is the best thing we had seen in our whole travels... beats the usual wet room, where you can sit on the loo, brush your teeth and have a shower all at the same time. After a quick rest we headed out to meet a couple off my ex work mates who have been in Thailand for over a month to pick their brains. Being the usual winos that they are it was over a few drinks in a local bar just at the end of the strip. We headed out for a bite to eat and they showed us around the town.We met them for breakfast the next day and went on a city tour, popping into the shopping malls (which are fantastic) and catching the sky train down to the canal where we caught a boat to the another part of town. The canals run like a bus service, pulling up at the stop for you to jump on, emphasis on the jump, remember it's a boat and they move all the time so it's a case of jump or end up in the water… quite an experience. A quick stroll and we then decide to squeeze four of us into the back of a two seater tuk tuk, talk about Brits abroad…. Lucky we actually made it down the road without tipping over. We waited at the main river for a boat back for a while missing a couple along the way as we didn't know which dock to stand on and like I said before there is no time to mess about with these boats. Finally after a quick trip back to the sky train we stopped in a good old Riley's bar for a few (24) G & T's and some food. Feeling a little shattered with the day's activities we all headed back to out hotels for some rest watched a film then headed to bed.The next day we said our goodbyes, checked out of our over budget hotel and headed to the Khao San Road, the backpackers hub in Bangkok. The guesthouse was small, but pretty clean and a hell of a lot cheaper than the palace. Heading out felt like we had stepped into a whole different world, the Khao san lit up like a strip in Vegas and lined with bars and market stalls selling everything you could possible need for travel in Thailand. We grabbed some dinner and a few drink then headed back. Still quite early we decided to try our luck with a local cinema. It actually turned out really well. The place was huge and we were just in time to see Max Payne in English, result!Today we have spent getting a few bits from the markets and essentials for the next part of the trip. Re packing our over weight bags and getting rid of anything that's not needed anymore. Tomorrow I'm heading south to the islands on a 14 hour overnight bus, whilst Dan is heading north for some jungle trekking and tubing in Laos (Look out for his future posts). Will be grabbing a few drinks later as it's our last night together and in Bangkok.More adventures soonS & D
