Dan and Claire go worldwide
We headed over to Krabi Province on the Andman coast of Thailand, the side where the Tsunami hit. Krabi town itself isn't supposed to be that great, so we headed to Railey, one of the outlying beaches which was absolutely beautiful.
This side of Thailand is said by many to be the most beautiful side, and even in the rain, Railey had that special quality of looking absolutely stunning!! It was only a 20 min ride from Krabi on a tail boat, although it was pouring with rain so we got absolutely drenched and it was a bit of a rocky ride!! We held on to our bags with dear life!! Nonetheless we arrived liked drowned rats and stayed in bungalow in a beautiful resort perched high up on the cliff, overlooking the sea. Railey beach itself is surrounded by huge limestone rocks (more like cliffs), with emerald green water, and it really is a beautiful beach.
We only stayed for one night as there isnt much to do there when it is raining (which it is on and off most of the time!), as it is quite a small, but cosy resort. We did visit the Princess Caves however which are within one of the huge cliffs. It is said to have the most beautiful limestone formations in the country inside it, and they were. One of the formations is called the golden waterfall and hit was pure golden limestone all down one side of the cave, glittering in the dark, it was amazing. True Thai style however, just as we got to the end of this huge cave, the electricity cut out, and we were left there standing in the pitch black in this eerie cave! We were the only ones in there, and it seemed like something out of a horror movie, dead silence! After banging my head on the limestone, we tried to use the light off of our camera screen to guide us out along the wooden walkways. Thankfully, the Thai guy who works outside noticed the blackout and came in with a lamp a minute later and helped us out, proclaming "light accident"!! yeah right!!
Even though it is monsoon season, we didn't want to leave without seeing this side of Thailand, and we actually did get a full morning of sun on Railey beach before we left!! Our hopes of returning to England with glowing tans is however diminishing by the minute!
