We were not here as long as we would have hoped. We went to Phonm Pehn and went to the Killing Fields and Tuol Seng School (S4 Prison) This was horrific. It was a real shock to the system that we were not even really aware of the horror that went on here even though it was only happening 30years ago. It only finished in 1978. It was equal to Hitler really. It was a really hard day as it is so intense. The school was turned into a torture camp and all sorts of brutal things happened and then they were taking to the Killing Fields to be killed. Music was played at the fields so that people in the surrounding areas could not hear the screams. Not nice at all. When you were walking around you could see clothes and bones coming through the ground where people were wearing away the ground and effectively digging up the bones. That was really scary. But Phonm Pehn city was nice - lots of work going on to improve the infrastructure. Lots of very poor people still in Cambodia and lots of very rich people; real contrasts. We stayed in a bit of a ghetto though which was fun and met the Ozzies from the trip we did with them in the highlands and they were traveling with a couple of girls from Wales so we all stayed on the lake together, along with an Icelandic couple we met on the bus to Cambodia. They are all really fun! We then caught a bus to Siem Reap and met up with the gang again! In Siem Reap we hired a tuk-tuk and went to Angkor Wat. This was brilliant even if we did get caught in a massive downpour! We saw the Tomb Raider Wat which was pretty cool and warranted some Lara Croft poses! We then left Cambodia to go to Bangkok.
