So we are in our last day in Asia. The 2.5 weeks have disappeared so quick even though we have fit in as much as possible. We have had plenty of great times with a few hard ones mixed in. Jac and I were speaking about our best and worst experiences and they came in the same country. Obviously the sickness from hell in Phuket was the major downer. No one likes to be sick but we could never really convey what we went through in that dark time. Thankfully it is just a distant memory and once leaving Asia something we probably won't have to worry about.
The highlight was also in Thailand playing with the baby elephant. To spend time interacting with a creature that is not common to us was so amazing. Looking into his eyes and sharing a brief moment of connection as she jumped around like any other kid was as close to a spiritual experience as we could have. Even writing this now brings a smile to my face.
Even though we had our best experience in Thailand our favorite country by far was Vietnam. It is a place we could have spent a lot more time and one we will hope to return to in the future. The solitary week we had only touched the surface and we hope to explore more of the country after the sample we had.
So today we bid Asia farewell and continue on to our next part of the journey. We will miss the craziness of the roads and the sickening smells (maybe that bit is debatable). We will miss the rip off merchants and the bargaining joust. We will miss the insanely cheap prices. We will miss the weird ass food and drinks and we will miss the dodgy water. But probably more then anything we will miss the amazing landscapes and beautiful people that have really touched us and given us a small taste of just how weird and wonderful this world can be.

jill pantlin I'm in awe of the lyrical way you describe your experiences. I feel that I am experiencing them through your written word. Looking forward to your next instalment. Take Care. Love Mum
