Day 08 - Tues 23rd Sept After packing our bag's and saying goodbye to Li's Hostel and with a 21hour train journey ahead of us, we decided to treat ourselves to a traditional English breakfast (including hot chocolate) from an Irish pub next to the hostel. Our timing couldn't have been worse, as we were joined by thee most pompous, insulting, moody Australian teacher, clearly suffering from delusions of grandeur! Not only did she decided to give us a 30min lecture on England's history, but she also sat in disbelief at our lack of knowledge of Australian illustrious history. Looking to make a haste exit, Steve (luckily) noticed that we had been issued the wrong tickets, so we made our excuses and dashed back to the ticket agents.
Thankfully, the woman who had issued the tickets was aware of her mistake and had arranged for replacements to be picked up at Hung Hom station. With plenty of time to spare (Extremely out of character for me) we arrived at the station and waited in the departure lounge anxious to see our transportation. We'd been hoping for a TV, possibly wifi, fantastic views and a decent restaurant cart.
Imagine our surprise when we reached our cabin and were greeted by 2 triple bunk beds, not a plug socket in sight. Instead of a restaurant, we had the choice of an over-sized pot-noodle in either hot and sour flavor or spicy beef! We were both on the top bunk, no leg room and every time we tried to sit up, we were knocked right back down to earth by the ceiling. Undeterred, I decided to watch Micheal Clayton on my Archos media player, only for the battery to die 50mins in. I then turned to my trusty Gmini (mp3 player) and with the help of Ne-Yo, Gym Class Heroes & Lauren Hill, slept through most of the journey.
