Had a change of plan this morning as we were going to head for Milwaukee, but Greg knew of a Steam and Vintage Tractor Fair in Edgar in Wisconsin, so we headed north for a couple of hours to have a look. The weather started off fine but got very overcast and misty by the time we got to Edgar, and when we turned off the highway into the field where the Fair was being held we could plainly see that they had received a pile of rain yesterday! The parking area in a paddock was chopped up big time and the organisers had laid lots of wood shavings down in an effort to dry it up! It hadn't worked though because the Dodge slipped and skidded about, but we got into line and headed for the entry! Once inside we saw a huge set up with over 500 vintage and steam tractors and a massive flea market where folk were selling bits and pieces, however the rain and the large crowd had churned the place into a quagmire and very soon our shoes were covered in thick slop!
It was a real Yankee farming meet, with the locals in typical bib and brace overalls, caps and chewing straw! There were lots of Amish folk there in strange garb, and Mumsie and I stood out like dunnies in a desert - pretty obvious we weren't locals!
Mumsie and I arranged to meet Greg and Jasmin in a couple of hours, and then went off for a wander - it was very difficult to get around and although it was a great display it is not really our thing - so we headed back to the car, removed our shoes and headed into the little town for a look and get some fuel! I had to bounce the Dodge over a drain to get out onto the road, but she made it in fine style and we headed for the town. No sooner than we had got into the local supermarket when Mumsie checked her phone and had a missed call - Jasmin and Greg had seen enough and were waiting for us - so we shot back to the fair and managed to pick them up just before it piddled down with rain!
So disappointing for Greg, as it was just what he had been waiting to see, but he managed to get an owners manual he wanted and a couple of parts!
We stopped off and got fuel and then headed east towards Green Bay. The beautiful farms continued, with magnificent dairies being the most frequent sight, and it was like that all the way. The rain lifted within 50 kms (poor b*****s at the Fair) and by the time we got to Green Bay it was fine and clear.
We passed the massive stadium that is home to the Green Bay Packers - seats over 72,000 people - and luckily for us missed the masses who were heading there for the first home game of the season - they were all driving into the city and we were on the way out!
We by passed a couple of lakeside (Lake Michigan) places and finished up stopping in Sheboygan which is about 5 kms from the lake! Tomorrow we will take a drive down there for a look, before driving into Milwaukee to see the Harley Davidson Museum.
