NICE

The drive to Nice was a long one, through some pretty countryside, staying reasonably close to the coast so that we could see the Mediterranean Sea on quite a few occasions. We passed through the end of the Pyrenees Mountains which were very beautiful and also later as we neared Nice the French Alps! The only stops during the day were at truck stops and we arrived into the French Riviera in good time, which gave us a chance to do an orientation tour of the city this afternoon instead of tomorrow.
Disappointingly we by passed Cannes, as most of us would have liked to see this place, and we drove down the famous promenade on the Nice beachfront, laughing at the grey pebble beach and all the posers strutting along!
The story of the pebbles is that they are supposed to make the ocean look bluer and also keep all the posers from getting sand on their bathers!!! Hello??? Sorry, but I reckon the real reason is that the little twenty metre stretch of beach was in danger of being washed away and so they have covered it with pebbles!
Anyway after a good look about the place we got to our hotel! Mmmmm! Loose description! That's all I'll say! The bloke in reception was ancient and bloody rude, and his wife not much better! The only positive was that wifi in our room was five euro for the length of the stay!
After a clean up we headed off for a walking tour with Victor and saw plenty more historical buildings, and then we had a meal at a plaza restaurant and then a coffee at a little cafe!
The non historian in me has me thinking that Nice is a bit of a dump! But most of the others seem to like it so I guess it is just me!
