Tuesday saw us back at the Lightning Ridge Artesian Bore Bath for another dip......The body feels so relaxed after a sitting in 42 degrees of hot water. We were expecting Alan's brother, Ray and his partner Rae up but we received a call on dusk that they wouldn't be with us until the following day.
While waiting for Ray & Rae to arrive we got clothes resorted, cut firewood and back into town for another look around and another dip. Ray & Rae arrived just before dusk, so after they got there camper set up, it was an enjoyable evening catching up with dinner and drinks.
The next couple of days consist of chilling out in the bore baths, reading, afternoon siesta's and more food and drinks, yabby competition and with the occasional walk......
Friday afternoon we had a storm hit us. As we huddled under the awning we had a river flowing underneath our feet, whilst our dinner of roast beef was cooking in the camp oven underneath the table......
Woke up on Saturday morning and the rain had stop and the ground was drying out......Thank god, otherwise we wouldn't be travelling anywhere today. Back into town to buy some opal jewellery. Rae bought two lamb shanks for dinner......more to tell about these later.....
We then agreed to met up near Walgett, as there was another Artesian Bore Bath in this town...On driving towards Walgett we were still travelling through heaps of out of control canola....It is growing everywhere.....
Heaps of emus were sighted on the sides of the roads......
We arrived at Walgett only to find their bore bath was closed and empty......Walgett looks like it might be a rough old town, as every shop window and doors are barred up......
Travelling towards Burren Junction there was heaps of water on the sides of the roads and a few times water was flooded over the roads, where we had to slow down to get through these waters.
Our stop for the night was Burren Junction which also has artesian bore baths, so after setting up camp for the night, we all ventured in for a dip in these baths.... These baths were cooler than Lightning Ridge... temperature probably sitting on 35 degrees.....The Burren Junction baths were covered in algae....but it was still pleasant having a dip....
Another great night was had, as our dinner of the lamb shanks was cooking in the camp oven.......oh yes...back to the lamb shanks.....the butcher back at Lightning Ridge certainly sold Rae some massive shanks....they were way to big to fit into the camp oven, so Alan had to be creative with so bush butchery.....check out the photo.......
Anyhow our spicy apricot lamb shanks in the camp oven were a hit with Ray & Rae........
The next morning saw us back in the bath before packing up......Ray & Rae headed off back to Sydney to pick up the dogs before heading back home to Rosebud....It was a great time catching up with them after being away from home now for five months.....
We snuck back into the baths again for another soak before heading off for the day, heading towards Gunnedah.....We found a free camp on the northern side of the Namoi River....few idiot locals doing donuts but otherwise a peaceful night.....
Heading into town today for a look around.......

cuppa Ray reminds me of Brian. Remember Brian?
cuppa That's just how it was when I was up that way on the motorcycle with son 16 years ago!
