Today started with an early rise to say goodbye to Hoian and head to Hue. We had a quick stop in Danang at a marble shop where there were many statues carved out of local marble. We then carried on our travels and our next stop was at the Danang lookout at the top of a big hill where an American military base was during the war. We then carried on into Hue.
Our first stop in Hue was at the Minh Mang Mausoleum - the 2nd Emperor of the Minh dynasty. We learnt about the history of the Mausoleum and all took guesses where we thought the body was buried. On the way back to the bus we came across fan hats for sale which became a very popular purchase in the 36 degree heat. We then headed off to the Minh Dai Mausoleum for a look around as well, very different from the first one but still amazing. This one we knew where the body was buried, and learnt about why people knew where this body was but not others. Afterwards we headed off to lunch in the city at the Banana Flower restaurant. Lunch was amazing again, with some new things to try and plenty of courses to fill us up.
After lunch we continued our tour of the city with a tour of the Hue Citadel, Royal Citadel and Forbidden city. Learning all about the history of the places and the importance of them. At the Forbidden city a couple of us stopped to stand under the sprinkle to cool off a bit, although we dried very quickly in the heat. We then got back on the bus and headed towards the river. We stopped at the Thien Mu Pagoda to take some photos before hopping on a boat for a cruise down the Perfume river to our hotel. We enjoyed some Vietnamese wild berries while looking at the city from the river before stopping and getting off for a quick walk to our hotel. That finished the tour off and left us for free time for the rest of the afternoon.
We had free time for a few hours to do what we wanted and get some dinner, some of us were very tired and slept for a bit before heading out for dinner, others explored the area around the hotel and others swum and relaxed. We all got our own dinner so we got to try new things again. We had a pretty early night as we had to be up at 4:45am to be ready to fly to Ho Chi Minh the next day.
