First day in Rio de Janeiro. We found a tour in the terminal that covered many of the high points - Christ the Redeemer, Tijuca Forest, Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas and the main Beaches (Lebron, Ipanema, Copacabana. Carnaval is everywhere with partiers on many streets and all beaches. Some of the main sites (e.g. Cathedral) were closed for Carnaval. Rio is 6 million with most of the population on the streets for Carnaval. To get through the city with many streets closed, our driver found side streets. The city is relatively clean despite Carnaval. More tomorrow.
