Awoke for the third day running to a CNN special about Steve Irwin (we'll get to the travel thing in a minute - I'm short of people to grump to..where are you Piers?) They kept going on about how it was such an irony that a man who made a living putting his head in crocodiles' mouths died wrestling with a kipper in 3 feet of water or something - I couldn't help but think of a double irony here - the one being that even though he's dead, I'm still marching across the room to change the bleedin channel - anyway rant over - my australian friends tell me no one actually speaks like that anyway except those guys off the 'Sheila's wheels' adverts.... Took a trip out of town to a type of ancient city theme park where a lot of famous Thai architecture has been copied a la Beaconsfield model village or legoland windsor - it was a bit better than that to be honest and tastefully done - the main reason for going was to get out of the smog for a while, I also managed to negotiate the skytrain (thats cool) two local buses and a pick-up to get there so I felt quite proud really, shunning the tuk tuk drivers and saving at least 40 pence (what do you think John S? I'd already tried them with my oyster card.... On this bus journey (this is going on a bit I know) I passed a market selling car doors, you can just imagine the shopping list - apples, eggs, pint of milk, left door for honda civic... It kind of sums up the chaos on the streets with everyone seemingly selling everything inclusing the ost enormous assortment of unidentifiable vegetables I've ever seen. Ou of the chaos thhough sometimes comes order - everyone queues up nicely for the Skytrain (sort of tube in reverse) in single file behind little arrows. Weird eh? Lastly a tip for all travellers - The boat is a great way to get up and down the river in Bangkok, is about the quickest and its breezy - don't wave at the people on the boat going in the other direction though - this appears to be a weird british hangover from childhood and makes you look mental. Off to Cambodia in the morning - should arrive in Siem Reap by the evening.
