Went looking around the area and found so much flood damage that wasn't reported on the news. The destruction is enormous.

There is a woman in this town that was swept away from her house by the flood waters during the night. She woke up to water in the bedroom about a foot deep. This women was lucky as she was swept into a tree about 100 meters from her house. One tree that was able to withstand the waters force.

She managed to hang onto the tree all night before she was spotted ( have no idea why or how as the whole area was meters under water) and rescued. Just amazing what you can do when you have to.

The Burnett river went up to 25 meters over it's normal height, and the banks are really high in a lot of places . How frightening is that. I know I was safe and sound at my place and I can't imagine the terror these people faced. It will take years for the damage to be repaired and the memories to fade.
