Welcome to the heat! Darwin is hot and humid. Great mindil night markets, you can smell the food from the car park and it's mouth watering. All the beautiful fresh flavours rolled into one it's sweet aromatic and I can't wait to taste it all! So many choices, so I dive straight into vietnamese rice paper rolls and it burst with flavour, fresh crisp veggies, coriander, mint, chilli , garlic, and crunchy peanut sauce, the best I've ever had! There's Indian, fresh seafood,Mexican, vegan, Thai, Indonesian, Chinese, baked spuds,Italian, Greek kebabs, Balinese puddings,Paella,Aussie hot dogs or crocodile burgers! The only thing I didn't see Dad was a pork pie! Hehe! The food stalls go on & on. I wish it was like woollies or Coles and you have a little taster at each stall. The Art work and jewellery on display are so creative. Lots of Balinese products sold here as you could imagine! After soaking in this unique atmosphere with the sounds of a didgeridoo playing in the background whilst someone else is happily singing a jazzy tune, ( not to mention a local busking by banging to sticks together in his undies!!!) we took some magical shots of the sun setting over the gorgeous yet heavily crowded beached. Another great spot.
The aviation museum full of WWII memorabilia, planes, helicopters, burnt out & remnants of bombed planes, communications boards with really fab retro looking phones hehe. The only B52 bomber in Australia all under one roof. The whole place Reminds me of both our Granddads, who were such brave young men. My Grandad was based in India Ceylon as a blacksmith, whilst Kevs Grandad was a rear gunner on the Lancaster bomber.
In the Museum and art gallery of the N.T we had a tiny taste of cyclone Tracey which wiped Darwin out on Christmas Day in 1974. Mass destruction left behind after winds hitting speeds of 200 miles per hour! Not sure what that is in kms but pretty bloody fast!!. Loved the Aboriginal art work on display always fantastic array of colours and patterns.
Wave lagoon on the water front fantastic all day fun with the kids, a blow up tube for the non surfers (aka..us) book and picnic equals very relaxing yet tiring day, so nice to head back to the comfort of our Jayco and enjoy a nice cold bevy with a side of freddo of course!
Adelaide river jumping crocodile cruise was great saw loads of crocodiles here they definitely saved the best for last " Brutis" he was a massive beast over 5 metres long 100year old croc with no teeth and a missing leg! They feed the croc wild buffalo which they shoot and kill themselves off there property! Very friendly staff.
