On arriving into Queenstown we were taken to the side of the main lake to pose for our kiwi experience photo...we all had to lay on top of one another in a pyramid pose...it was so funny as when I looked to the side of me our driver had got butt naked..I didnt quite know where to look! After the photo we checked into our hostel, another Base Backpackers. Nice and clean, just what we like. Steve had warned us that tonight was going to be a huge night out as a lot fo the places were going to give us free drinks. We got into Altitude Bar (the hostel) bar which is really nice and the drinking began....we had jagerbombs to start and then shots of a really nice fruity cocktail. The festivities continued and then kareoke began... Heather and I had been awesome (in our opinions) at bus kareoke in Alice Springs in Australia so we put our names down to sing "Man I feel like a woman" by Shania Twain. It seemed like a good idea at the time....ha ha. One of the lads Ed was singing Delilah by Tom Jones and he decided to drag me up on stage to be his Delilah...was not impressed but I did play along! We had a few more cheap drinks and then I heard my name followed by Heathers, we rushed up onto the stage and everyone from our bus were cheering...the DJ said " oooh you already have a fan club"...I have no idea why...we were horrendous, it was soo funny but we enjoyed ourselves and everyone was singing along! When we got off stage the DJ said " Well, that was.... different" ha ha classic. We left that bar pretty quickly after singing and headed to World Bar. The place with the teapots of alcohol. I had been to the one in Sydney back in December but the fun of drinking out of a teapot never seems to fade. We had a few drinky poo's in there and then ended up in the renowned FERGBURGER....oh my god I have never been burgers and food like it. Randomly one of the creators of Bungy jumping was there...dont know why I didnt take a photo of him though...think I was too interested in my burger. I took the burger back to the hostel which is conveniently located pretty much opposite fergburger and Pembo and I sat on the sofa munching it and we got it everywhere! Off to bed...
I spend 3 days skiing when I was in Queenstown and it was a lot of fun and really cheap. On my first day I met a group of really nice girls and a boy who I ended up spending the whole 3 days skiing with. The first day was the best day with regard to the lessons and also the instructors. Rosie and I were absolute nutters that day but had the most fun ever! The second day wasnt so good as I was taken out a few times by idiots. As I have dodgey legs, skiing wasnt the easiest for me and I think next time I will try boarding. On the second day I was standing at the bottom of the slope when this bloke was staring at me, he had most of his face covered and I could only just see his eyes. I said to him " What you staring at??!!!!!" and the voice replied "TRACY COTTON!!" it was only flippin Dan who I used to hang around with when I was a teenager! Mental as! We was working as A phtographer at Coronet Peak where I was skiing. It was so nice to meet someone I knew so randomly! Such a small world.
The nights out in Queenstown were out of control! One night loads of our bus played Pub golf which is where you have to do a certain thing in a certain pub, ie down a guiness and you add up how many gulps it takes for you to drink it and the person with the lowest score wins... I had decided not to take part in this as I was meeting up with a nice couple I had spent New Year in Sydney with. They were on their skking holiday in Queenstown and had contacted me! They live in Sydney. I met them for a drink and then joined the others in another pub. It was pretty funny as they were all wasted and they even had to crawl into one of the pubs on their hands anf knees for one of their challenges. It was hilarious. I was skiing the next day so I didnt drink too much at all.
Other random nights in Queenstown consisted of New Years in a pub called Winnies... we always ended up in World Bar which started to do my head in!
Once Skiing was finished I didnt really know what to do with myself so Laura and I lived in Starbucks really, its so cheap in NZ, bascially what I pay in dollars over here its what it costs in pounds! mental and ridiculous.
What I have forgotten to mention about Queenstown is that I soend 10 days sharing a room with 7 boys...no girls just boys. At night time before everyone went out it would smell gorgeous and then when I awoke in the morning the room smelled of arse...I hate boys sometimes! ha ha. Dont know why I felt I had to tell you all that but it was pretty odd sharing with boys for such a long time. Ah well, you live and learn!
From Queenstown it was an early start bus ride back upto Christchurch. It was a really long day and even longer than usual as our bus kept breaking down and we even had to get a ride on a random bus back into the nearest town. On our journey though we did stop at Lake Tekapo whic his probably the most beautiful lake I have ever seen in my life..it was amazing. All the boys were hungover once again for the journey and I thought they were actually going to spew on us. In the words of Pembo, the night before had been a "jar fest" (she's from manchester and that means getting drunk!) We didnt arrive back in Christchurch until 7pm and everyone was sooo fed up of being on a bus...
