I had heard that Milford Sound was well worth a day trip as the scenery was supposed to be spectacular. The only probably with this place is that it rains pretty much every day of the year. Sometimes they get upto 10 metres in a year...and I complain about Hertfordshire!
It was an early morning once again and as this was just a day trip from Queenstown a lot of driving was involved. Infact 4 hours there and 4 hours back. Nice. No one else from my other bus was going with me but luckily Graham who I was previous skiing with went so at least there was one familiar face. There were various stop off points on the journey (thank god) including the Mirror lakes, Lake Gunn and various gorgeous other photo opportunity points. At Te Anau where we stopped for Breaky we picked up a few others and luckily enough it was two girls from my previous bus, Clare and Rachel. The four of us ended up hangin about together for the rest of the day and we had a fab day.
When we got to Milford Sound we got on our boat and had our buffet lunch...the lunch was not exactly amazin but it fed my hungry tummy. The cruise itself was gorgeous and as luck would have it no rain throughout the trip. It was freezing cold though but we were warmed up by endless cups of tea. There was this hilarious group of Koreans on the boat (people from Korea are actually rather strange I have found) and when we were shown this huge waterfall they were hilarious, making the funniest OOOOOOHHH's and AHAAAHHH sounds I have ever heard. Also it seemed to be a rule that you had to be gay to work on the boat, I swear they squeeked when they walked! haha.
Also part of the trip was to go to the under water observatory, apparently the week before they had seen dolphins and stuff but we only got to see a couple of colourful fish. After the observatory we jumped back on the boat for the last part of our cruise around Milford Sound. The sun had come out and the views were gorgeous.
It was then back on the bus for 4 hours to get back into Queenstown, luckily there were a few other nutters on the bus encluding a guy that grew up in Stansted Abbots, which is about a 5 minute drive from where I live.....mental... this world seems to get smaller by the day!
