Hoi An is a delightful old port town on the Thu Bon river filled with quaint old house painted in various shades of yellow, it is considerably quieter than the Ho Chi Minh or Nha Trang and the meandering streets are filled with shops and tailors displaying beautifully crafted dresses. I spent my time in Hoi An wandering around the local market and many shops, in a hunt for trainers I wandered upon a lovely tailors shop and was soon purchasing a lovely blue cotton summer dress tailor made to measure for £16 and made within 6 hours! A good purchase for up and coming birthday celebrations.
Food in Hoi An is equally delightful, I sample local specialities white rose dumplings (A soft dumpling filled with pork and shrimp) crispy pancakes (this are quite thick pancakes slightly more like an omelette but crispy cooked with shrimp in and served with fresh herbs and bean sprouts to stuff the pancake with) and come to term with spring rolls, one restaurant only serves 'spring rolls' but by these they mean a banquet of grilled meat skewers, fresh herbs, salad, crispy pancakes and fried shrimp spring rolls but they serve all of this with rice paper the idea being you fill the rice paper with your choice of the food above and roll and eat, I suppose like a Vietnamese fajita?! Very yummy.
