We make an epic journey to cross the border from Cambodia into Vietnam, in total and 8 hour drive, with another 4 hours to drive to go Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) we stay over night in a home stay in a local village. A bit of a change from the hotels we are used to with many beds in one room and having to use mosquiteo nets, however the villagers warm recetion and hospitatilty more than made up for it. Also having the opportunity to view local life, as we wander round the village the locals greet us with smiles and hellos, we find a family eating their evening meal of snails and a very strong smelling schnaps that they would like to share with us, we politely decline but the mother climbs a tree and picks fresh fruit for us similar to a plum. These people live a very simple life with minimal money or posessions but immediatly are willing to share, it was very kind.
Our hosts prepare a fantastic meal of traditional vietnamese food and show us how to make vietnamese crispy pancakes, which they stuff with pork and beansprouts, we are also served spring rolls, stir fried pork and pumpkin soup. Yummy, anyone who thought i would lose weight on this trip may be wrong, the delicious food and now 75 cent beer is not going to help with weight loss.
