So it was an early start.. we packed up and walked to the Oz Experience Office around the corner with Sarah, Laura and Cesca to board the smallest Oz bus we had seen.. thank the lord its just for 2 days.. Our driver Bill introduced himself and told us about the trip we would be taking.
First stop was the National park to find some kangaroos!! We arrived there and due to it being school holidays its harder to find them as the children camping scare them away. Whilst we were waiting we followed Bill listening to stories and tips on staying safe in the outback.. well..that would have been handy before our little trip to Karijini national park on the west coast! teehee... We finally found some small grey kangaroos.. and were having a lovely wander when it was time for our lovely TREK!.. back on the bus.!
So we drive all the way to the top of the blue mountains.. which are supposidly beautiful but guess what..? the weather was so bad and foggy we couldn't see anything from our first lookout point.. fantastic! luckily throughout the day the fog lifted and we were able to get some good photos.
The trek down to the waterfalls and back up again was pretty hard work - or as Bill would say Strenuous.. (the woman at the booking office told us we could wear flip flops and its only downhill walking- hmmm think we shall have a word with her when we get back to Sydney)..we walked back up from the waterfall - jayne counted 589 deep steps up and Bill was over the moon when we broke the record by 3 secs.. yes the whole group climbed back up in 3 mins! Whilst Bill was impressed Lisa was less than happy when remembering half way that she forgot her inhaler! yes I know , my fault!
Time for lunch before we headed back down again to echo point for some shouting and story telling from Bill about the 3 sisters.. it was nice to sit down! This time we didn't have to climb back up the mountain as there is a scenic railway which was first used to move coal. It is the world's steepest Railway and you seriously have to hold on... Now it takes you quite quickly at a gradient of 52 degrees back up to the top.. great fun..! As we were staying the night in the Blue Mountains we got dropped off along with our Norwich buddies at the YHA in Katoomba.
We were so tired..we grabbed a hot chocolate to warm us up and then had a well deserved meal out! what a treat! ..early night reading in bed. Yes everyone the world pub crawl was cancelled for the night.. hahah
The next day we woke up to thick fog..lovely.. didnt stop us though. We jumped on the trolley and had a tour of the mountains and looked around Leura town. We noticed one stop on the Trolley Tours was a Chocolate shop/factory.. well, we had to! Oh seriously trust us when we say this was the best hot chocolate ever! you are given a pot of their home made chocolate buttons along with a pot of hot froffy milk. Then a flask with a tea light underneath. You melt your own chocolate and add the milk.. hmmmmm delicious! We walked back to the hostel to say goodbye to the girls as they were staying an extra night and we had to move on back to Sydney ready to visit Lisa's friend Kev and his family.
