We headed north from Mackinaw City towards Lake Superior. Had a nice winding, forested drive along the Superior coast to Munising, where we took a boat tour to the Pictured Rocks. On our 2.5 hour tour along cliffs over 150' tall, we saw rock caves, colourful displays caused by water flowing through the different minerals in the rocks, rock formations of all different shapes (it was fun describing the different ones we saw, because everyone saw the rocks differently), a couple of beaches, and a couple of waterfalls.
At our campground, we were treated to a complete lunar eclipse between 9 and 10 pm. Before the eclipse, the moon was so bright that we could see only a few hundred stars. As the eclipse progressed across the moon and the sky got darker, we progressively saw more and more starts, and eventually we could see the Milky Way.
