Clare's Travels of Oz and NZ
Cave tubing is so much fun! Arrived in Waitomo at lunch and checked in to the lovely YHA here. I'm staying in a lodge very cute! Its very close o teh info centre so i popped down there to see what was on offer for cave tubing or black water rafting as it is also known. Within 5 minutes of walking in i was booked on the Black Abyss - the most expensive and most challenging adventure. It was awesome there were 8 of us on the trip. We dropped and abseiled down in to the caves through a crevass and then tubed, walked waded swam adn crawled through the caves looking at the glow worms on our way. We did a zip wire (rapel) in pitch black (so scary!) and had to climb out of the caves up waterfalls without harnesses just using the holes the water had made in thelimestone. It has to be the highlight of my holiday so far and well worth the 50 or so pounds. We got flapjack and chocolate, tea and hot squash on the way and hot showers and soup were waiting for us when we got back to the centre. Would recommend it to anyone as long they werent severely claustrophobic! Just been for dinner with my room mate Erin in the hostel restaurant. I am so ready fro bed now - off to see some geysers tomorrow - meet up with mary friday morning as we are off to Taupo.
