Jodhpur is the Blue City.
We were told by one guide that initially the blue paint was used to keep houses cool and repel mosquitoes. Having made no subsequent research I'll let this be fact until proven fiction.
After a freezing cold all night bus trip we arrived in Jodhpur at 4:30 in the morning. I had not had a seconds sleep on the journey and the town was freezing cold. We decided we would check into a hotel, if only for 5 hours, just to get a bit of sleep.
In the picture you will see the Mehrangarh Fort of Jodhpur. It was built approximately 500 years ago and has been expanded and renovated ever since by the royal families of Jodhpur. It has never been taken despite many attempts by the Moghuls. This was a truly magnificent fort but unfortunately my memory is already fading as it has been a full week since I was there and many other things have happened.
In Jodhpur we also visited the 20th Century Palace of the royal family of Jodhpur where the family still reside, while making room for a luxury hotel (interior decorated in the art deco style). The palace is magnificent but lacks the atmosphere of the other palaces we've seen.
We stayed in Jodhpur only a day, as I had accidentally booked our train tickets to Agra a day earlier than planned.
