I'm not able to upload photos still! Will try so when I find a new internet place.
Cochin
A relaxed town still in Kerala. Here we are waiting for Chez to arrive and seeing the sights of the Fort town.
It is an extremely lovely town despite the following paragraph of b****ing and moaning:
The town is hot and humid with blackouts every few hours. The more tourist-savvy businesses are equipped with generators - don't get caught mid-meal in a restaurant with no generator: the curry will no longer seem hot compared to your body temperature. Disappointingly, very few restaurants have liquor licenses and they stick to the rules around here. I'm convinced they think Anita's from the Indian secret police (disguised as a tourist), as we were directed to a restaurant by an English couple that definitely served beers, but they certainly didn't to us! Discrimination! Devastation! Don't they know we're Australians!!!!!
We visited Jew Town which was settled by Jewish settlers hundreds of years ago. They had made a settlement in Cranganore, a port near Cochin in 60AD but had been run out of there in the 16th Century by the Muslims. The story goes the leader of the Jewish community escaped by water swimming with his wife on his back. The Jewish community then gained the protection of the Hindu Raja.
