Day 9, 27th January
Arrived in Hoi An and decided that we were extremley tired after all the buses and the the lack of hot water so we booked into a hotel called the Grasslands having an indoor swimming pool, guarnteed long use of hot water and at $15 per night thought it was very reasonable and just the luxury we needed.
Hoi An is a really nice quiet little fishing village nice and peacefull after busy Hanoi and Hue!! And would definatly come back here in the summer. The weather on arrival was warm and no rain at first so sat in the garden area of the hotel for lunch.
Explored the old town finding plenty of shops (just what we needed) and tailors that basically make anything you want like dresses, coats and suits etc all in a day. Bought a couple of summer dresses my first purchase of the whole trip and only $5 a dress what a bargain!!
Saw a columbian (i think) guy that we met on the Ha long Bay boat trip who recommended we walk to the beach, after pointing us in the right direction and after 30 mins of walking with no beach insight it had started to get dark and hunger was creeping up on us so we turned back.
Grabbed a bite to eat in a asian looking resturant with laterns all lit up over looking the river very nice setting and the happy hour on cocktails certainly helped.
Day 10, 28th January
Had a layin this morning up at 9am the first in 10 days. Weather still nice today bit of rain but nothing like Hue.
Went for another wonder through the town of Hoi An, bought another dress may keep this one for the summer at home....
When we wanted to go back to the hotel we walked back to the hotel shop for them to call the shuttle bus we waited about 5 minuets watching the women eating there lunch (SNAILS which they offered to us, we politely declined lol) we heard a rumble outside, two motorbikes had turned up which after seeing quite a few local people come off there bikes with the amount of traffic and not forgetting to mention the way they drive we decided we'd rather walk....after 20 mins of walking realised we had gone the wrong way i think we finally got back to the hotel an hour later after stopping off for a well deserved Mars bar ha ha
Lunch and tea was also enjoyed along the river all though the resturant this evening was much better than last we even tried and succeded to eat the whole meal with chopsticks lol. Staff were really nice and gave us a small cup of Vietmanese tea and a Hoi An cake for free...really yummy!
Met two English women at the evening resturant who were also off to Ho Chi Minh tomorrow but flying rather than getting the bus as it only takes 1 hour!! They told us that there new year here falls on the 31st January so we should see some fireworks and celebrations when in the city. (looking forward to that)
Did a bit more shopping on the way back to the hotel not clothes this time but some jewellry......well we need momento's don't we lol.
Off to Ho Chi Minh City/Saigon tomorrow our last stop in Vietnam not looking forward to the 22 hour bus journey hoping this time i won't be squshed by luggage while i sleep, fingers crossed.
