Claire's Travels
Hi Everyone!
Sorry havent updated for the last couple of days. Last time I wrote we were heading to the Blue Mountains. Thankfully we got a great sunny day for the trip. Our first stop was a wild life sanctuary (we had no idea that this was included in our trip. The travel agent wasnt all there) There were Koalas, wallabies, kangaroos and hundreds of birds. I have to say that I stopped to consider how easy it would be to take a koala with me. They really are very cute. They just look like teddy bears. Apparently they can be quite vicious.
Anyway, after the sanctuary we stopped in a little town for some lunch. We had come all prepared by packing our own lunch...unfortunately the sandwich we had bought was pretty disgusting so we have up and stopped in a little cafe for a bite to eat.
We then headed to the Blue Mountains. As we approached them, the views were amazing. I'm not sure my pictures quite capture it. There are three rides within the mountains...well gondolas etc to get you from one area to the next. One of them however was more of a death trap than a ride. It is the steepest railway in the world (i think?!) You start by sitting on a bench which is really reclined, which we thought was a little strange. To make matters worse we were slightly squidged between to rather large women so there wasnt a huge amount of room. However as the train started we were grateful to be vacuum packed into it! There was absolutely nothing to keep you in the seat as it practically went vertical as it made its way down the cliff. We actually thought we were going to fall out and plummet to our deaths!
...You'll be delighted to know that we made it to the bottom in one piece. We then took the trail through the rainforest. This is very pretty but unfortunately you spend the majority of the time under bush and therefore can not see the actual mountains. excuse me if I'm wrong but surely thats the main point of being there? Once out of the forest we made our way back to the top via one of the gondolas. The forest seems to go on for miles; its hard to take it all in!
Oh I forgot to mention our bus driver. He certainly knew his stuff regarding Sydney and the surrounding areas. Unfortunately I and im sure the majority of my fellow bus passengers were slightly distracted by the annoying throat clearing issues he had. After anything he said he would pause and start to cough and swallow. This wouldnt have been quite so bad if we hadnt had to listen to it through the microphone. nice.
Good day though! The mountains are definately worth a visit!!
