Claire's Travels
Hi One and All!
Well we are now in Sydney! Hoorah! It's really nice to be in a big city again after New Zealand's small towns and one street wonders.
We arrived into the city yesterday afternoon and went straight to the hostal...I'll be honest, it isnt quite a nice as some of the places we have stayed but the location is great - right in the centre of everything!
That night we headed into China Town for a bite to eat, even though neither of us were really craving chinese. We ended up at this restaurant because it looked fairly popular...to be honest they are all selling the exact same food so it doesnt really matter where you head!
While tucking into our rather gigantic portion of noodles (seriously how do the Chinese stay so god damn thin??!!) we observed our surroundings and the people in it. I felt like I was in some gangster / mafia film. People were constantly entering and leaving the back of the restaurant looking really shifty. I later discovered when I went looking for the toilets that all of these people were actually attending some sort of sporting event meal. This restaurant had a huge stage upstairs, where an out-of-tune singer was performing for them all...so not quite as gangster-ish as I had previous thought.
Today we trundled off to the most photographed area of Sydney...the Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House. Thankfully the sun was out and it was actually quite warm. We didnt even have to wear coats today (a first for about a month!!)
We are doing a trip to the Blue Mountains tomorrow, which includes a river cruise on the way back so we will get views of the Bridge and Opera House from the water and at night which should be good!
Anyway must dash! So much to do and see!
p.s for all those shopaholics out there...Sydney is certainly worth a visit!
