Bangkok to Chiang Mai
Hello hello! Caught the 15 hour sleeper train to Chiang Mai from Bangkok on the 31st. We were in a carriage of about 20 people and had a small bunk each. Hardly slept then were brought breakfast at 9.30 am. Interesting journey in that the train was jolting a lot and at one point a lot more than the rest of the time at which time we went backwards and forwards a lot...apparently this was because the last carriage fell off...not sure if this was a joke or not! Anyway arrived in Chaing Mai 15 hours later and got a minibus into the centre. Walked and eventually found a guesthouse, Eagle House 2. Walked to 2 temples on our first full day. Walked in the midday heat which was not the best idea as we were sooo sweaty by the time we got the the 2nd temple. The walk home was a killer...Claire's new flip flops cut her feet so that only made matters worse! 4 hour walk in total. In the evening we booked a 2 day trek which we got back from last night. Swam under a waterfall, saw a hot spring, trekked up a mountain for 4 hours, slept in a tribal hut, hiked again, had an elephant ride down a river, went bamboo rafting...lots of stuff!! Claire thought she might faint at one point during the hike...it was damn hard work!! Really good though and we met some nice people. Off to Laos in an hour so off to wait for our bus now...lotsa love and hopefully be back online soon!! Suz and Claire x x x
