Here is an update of what we've been up to since we left Airlie Beach. It was very upsetting to leave all our friends, however we had new adventures ahead of us!
First came Cairns. We had a great time here as on our first day we decided to hire a car and explore the many waterfalls around the area. We were lucky enough to visit Milla Milla falls (which for all you uneducated was where Peter Andre filmed his mysterious girl video - awesome!) We also visited Josephine falls which has a natural rock slide, but due to the rain they received earlier in the week it was more like rapids, so we wisely decided to stay out and not get dragged down river.
The next day we took trips to Port Douglas, where we fed kangeroos and held a Koala (Claire held one, I got groped by one as you can tell by the picture) Then on to Daintree and Cape Tribulation, where we decided to stay the night. We completed a rainforest walk where we were eaten alive and saw some not so cuddly spiders before we headed back to our accomodation. It was quite creepy as you're in the middle of nowhere and there isn't much to do, but the next day we went horse riding along Cape Tribulation Beach and through the rainforest which was great. Claire had a horse called Billy and mine was called Nut. They were all a bit lazy but the ride was nice and they got going when they were told to. We had a great time here, but were happy to be back in Cairns with civilisation.
After this it was skydive time! We wisely didn't tell our mothers, as we had it booked a few weeks in advance. We were off to Mission Beach and it was a great experience. Our instructors were great as were our camera guys and gals! The pictures are awful but rather hilarious as is the video. It is a big adrenaline rush but flying through the clouds was great and the view was incredible. Afterwards, in true Claire and Lisa style, we went to the bar, got a little drunk with our intructors and played some pool before the staff were very kind to put our dvds on for the entire bar to watch. We hightailed it out of there not long after.
After our escapades we decided it was time for some rest, so the next few days were spent relaxing by the pool and seeing Cairns itself. We managed to find a cinema which we'd been desperate for for sometime (we saw the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo). We then prepared ourselves for Australia day, which is a huge excuse to get very drunk! Our roomates (all a little younger than us) unfortunately didn't last very long and were in bed by half eight. We went for some dancing however before making it back to the dorm and on a 7:30am bus the next day.
Our next stop was 1770, unfortunately due to the flooding we never made it there and got stuck in a backwards town called Bundaberg. We decided a little farm work wouldn't hurt us...before we realised it would and now neither of us can walk up the stairs! We off on Sunday hoping to make it to 1770 this time and get some surfing in, but we'll let all you guys know how it goes!
We're excited for the rest of the East Coast and are both surprised how quickly our time here has gone. Only 3 months left in Oz!
Love you all
