Another early start and it was to head straight for the dock for our rowing boat round the floating fishing village. This was true Viatnamese life and was good to get away from the tourist route! We were taken through homes on the river with children just shouting 'Hello' and waving before we were taken to the caged fish breeding farm where 1000s of fish kept to obviously breed.
After this we rowed back through the village to a Cham Village where we would get onto another boat to take us to the Cambodia border. This took us about 2 hours up the mekong passing fisherman, kids playing, families bathing and cows swimming!
We were a little bit apprehensive about the border crossing, especially from reading all the horror stories about these crossings in Asia - from being robbed or conned out of money...
Fortunately everything went completely smoothly and quickly on the Vietnamese side from having our passports taken away to havinmg our baggage x-rayed. We then crossed over onto the Cambodian soil and again eveything went smoothly and quickly, even overtaking other tour groups which were about an hour behind. All in all we were more than impressed with our travel group knowing we had got the best deal. All we needed to do now was to catch our bus to Phnom Penh - we were 2 hours well ahead of schedule - it was 3 pm and we would get to Phnom Penh by 4 or 4.30 if there was bad traffic...
Spoke to soon, we got to a car park from the boat and our guide told us to go quickly to the loo as it was another hours journey on the coach. After 5 minutes our guide randomly vanished up the road on a bicycle. An hour passed and we were still stood in the car park in the roasting sun, wondering where our guide was or more importantly our coach. Another hour passed and we were still stood there, it was even better when the other groups who we had previously over taken started showing up and getting straight onto their ready waiting air con buses and leaving straight away for Phnom Penh.
After going on for nearly 3 hours our guide arrived back on his bicycle, looking a little drunk. He was followed into the car park by 3 clapped out very old cars. Piling 4 of us into the hot sweaty leather seats (not quite the clean a/c coach we were promised) we set off for Phnom Penh.
Completely not what we expected! A lot more developed and built up than Saigon with about as much traffic.
Hot annoyed and tird we settled for a 5$ guesthouse by the lake were for some reason the rooms are well ovre 20C! Hotter than outside - all we've got is a crappy squeeky fan!
