This morning we grabbed a quick coffee and headed off south towards Texas. We followed the range of hills which were attached to Sandia Peak on our left, and had what should really be described as ‘cowboy country’ for the rest of the view. We did pass several signs offering 20-50 acres for $18000. Not a bad deal but there is nothing out here.
We made it to the town of Truth Or Consequence. Yup. It did have a Denny’s, and as the twins had not tried one before, this was our lunch stop. We were served by a very friendly lady who had cut her hand off with a band saw. It was re-attached, and today was her first day back at work. Needless to say, the food was good and way too much.
When we approached El Paso, we realised that it was a lot bigger than any of us had realised, and it was also our first time we had really experienced the American interstate confusion. Yes, the GPS understands that you need to get off at Exit 95. However, there is the I251 (East) and I251 (West) at the same exit and you sometimes only have 50m to live with your actions and if you’re in the wrong lane, you need to go up the new interstate until you can exit this one, do a U turn, go back and repeat. Not fun. Needless to say, I got lost and took about 10 mins to get sorted and back on track. We crashed in the hotel and put up with their bar menu for dinner.
