Today we played tourist and bought a hop on hop off bus ticket to travel around London to see the sights. After our busy day of walking yesterday, we needed the rest.....
The hop on, hop off bus takes about 3 hours to complete and covers over 50 tourist attractions. Today we took in sites that we had not seen previously including the London Bridge, Tower of London,St Pauls Cathedral, Mayfair, Park Lane,Kennsington Palace, Notting Hill and even a stop at Harrods.
Nadeen wanted to show me Harrods, so we hopped off the bus, had a look around - and I have to admit, even for a non shopper such as myself, it is very impressive. To try and explain the extravagence of this place, there was an opera singer entertaining the crowds whilst they travelled up an escalator - she was standing on a balcony and singing!! We sat down and enjoyed a hot chocolate and coffee and enjoyed one of their tasty sweets - that was after passing up on the offer of drinking french champagne at their champagne bar at a steal of 22 pound for a flute of french champagne!!!!!!
For lunch we had a traditional Sunday roast at one of the local pubs - for English food, it wasn't too bad - not as good as our roasts back home, but still, it hit the spot and gave us the energy to continue on our site seeing. A Sunday roast is a traditional thing over here for most pubs, so we had to try it. We had roast beef, with vegetables, and Yorkshire Pudding.
The traffic and crowds here are unbelieveable - people everywhere....there is also a big festival in Notting Hill this weekend and in addition it is a long weekend here.
We stopped at Picadilly Circus to see if we could buy some tickets to a show tomorrow night, however, no luck - there are over 50 different shows playing in and around London at the moment. Some of the shows include Les Miserables, Billy Elliot, We will Rock You, Pricella Queen of the Desert, Jersey Boys, Mousetrap to name a few.
We had a nice surprise tonight when Dad called us to say hello - pretty impressive considering it was 4am Melbourne time - who said he is not a morning person!!! It was great to hear from him and he wished us all the best for the rest of our trip.
We have decided to spend another night here in London to try and see and do more things - we will then plan out the rest of our week. So we will now be here until Wednesday.
Tonight we went out for dinner at Picadilly Circus - again people everywhere and the underground train system continues to impress us. You dont have to worry about looking up timetables here. You just turn up at the platform and if you miss a train, there is another one that comes along in a couple of minutes. Even on a Sunday night, and a long weekend, the trains just run every couple of minutes - it really is the only way to get around this town.
For those of you reading our Blog - thanks - we have lots of photos to upload, and we have published them some of the Cyprus photos now. The rest will have to wait until we get back. We hope you are enjoying our blog.
