Despite a late night, we were up and about early.
We decided to walk around the tourist sites and went to Westminster Abby, Buckingham Palace and Hyde Park.
Buckingham Palace is just like you see in the photos - although we took the opportunity to walk around the perimiter of the palace and I have to say the perimeter looks more like a jail than a palace....
We had breakfast overlooking the Serpentine Lake in the middle of Hyde Park. We spent over an hour walking around Hyde Park trying to find the Lady Diana memorial fountain so as we could take a photo for Nadeen's mother Cheryl - we couldnt initially find it, but we perservered and eventually found it - I hope Cheryl appreciates our efforts!!!
We went back to Buckingham Palace to watch the changing of the guards. The crowds here are unbelievable - almost annoying at times - but this is what the people come to see.
Following our walk in the morning, we returned to the hotel and I went to the Football with Brett, whilst Nadeen took in some shopping therapy at Harrods.
Brett and I had a beer at one of the local pubs before the match - supporters here are segregated before, during and after the match. Upon entering a pub, you are asked who you support and if you are not a "local" supporter, you are not allowed into the pub - certainly different to Melbourne. The other significant difference is that you are not allowed to take a beer into the stadium, nor are you allowed to drink during the game - basically you can drink as many pints as you can before the game, at half time (which is only about 15 minutes), and that is it. They close the bars when the game starts and again after half time - not sure this would catch on in Melbourne?
Still, it was a fantastic experience and you have to admire the passion of the English supporters.
The Football match between Chelsea and Norwich City was amazing! Incredible atmosphere and the day was full of supporters from both sides singing various chants about their respective sides - it is more like a concert than a football match....Chelsea won 3-1, so Brett was happy.
Nadeen arrived at Harrods and was so overwhelmed with the size of the store that she had to sit down and have a cake and coffee and study the layout of the store, before taking on the challenge of shopping. Despite her initial shock of how expensive and extravagent everything was, she battled on.
We then went to Brett and Lizzies place in Elephant and Castle to see where they live - they have a very nice unit and are centrally located.
After catching a double decker bus back into the city we found a nice Italian restaurant and had dinner and decided to have a quiet night - both of us are starting to feel a bit tired. A quick cab ride back to our hotel and we retired for the evening.
I had my first somac tablets today - so I have done fairly well.......
