So heading further north in Laos, me and Steve head to Vang Vieng, while Sarah flies of to Vietnam. Vang Vieng is a sort of cosy small place, we take the bus here and arrive in the late afternoon. There is not a lot to do here it seems, especially if you aren't taking day trips out away from the centre. On the first night we find one of the Korean restaurants, where you get the raw food and cook at you table. Unlike using a hot rock which I have done in England, we are given a pan of hot coals and a metal looking device to cook soup in the bottom and then meat on the top. It is quite a lot of fun, especially as we ordered a mixture and had no idea what some of it was.
The next day we take on the infamous tubing experience down the Mekong River. Once a party place, the river lined with bars and full of people, the experience is now quite different. The bars now have all be shut, you bring you owns beers and food if you wish and simply enjoy the relaxing float down the river. Peaceful is the best way to describe this place and goes with the attitude out here of not rushing at all.
