Rolled into Wellington after a brief flight on Tuesday 13th April. All pretty tired from our previous banter in Queenstown there was nothing on the cards but a quiet one. Checked in and hit the sack. It was Andy's birthday on the 13th but we had decided to have it on the 14th.
Wednesday we arose and decided we needed to stock up on some New Zealand culture. Hit the Te Papa Tongarewa Museum to stimulate the mind. After an accomplished morning it was time to send Andy home and do some Birthday shopping. A cheeky printed T-Shirt, a Bob the Builder card, some party hats and a miniature race car for the six of us later and we were set for the festivities. Chilled out for the rest of the afternoon before hitting the most highly recommended Chinese restaurant in Wellington. A superb meal, even if we did look at bit odd in our party hats. The racing cars (little wind up numbers) were also issued for the evenings activities. We had Overlord (Andy), Thuner (James), Thunder (Matt), Superior (Luke), Player (Jack) and Thrust (Chris). From now on one on one races could be had anywhere, team races could be called and on the signal of 'rev your engines' the cars had to be out the pockets sharpish. Last out was punished! Quick change and it was down to the bar. Now while it may have looked like we were straight out the Early Learning Centre some serious wheel spinning action was being had. After some party time at Base it was onto the bars for a few drinks and check out the sights. Jack's fav was the Splash club. After that it was back to our hostel bar to round off the night. The cars had seen plenty of action and Andy had had a bloody good birthday.
Next day it was up at a reasonable time to see the city. Had a cruise around the posher part of town and was impressed by the shopping potential....... After that we spotted a pool hall with a 3 pound fifty price tag for the day. Sold. In we went and some serious pool action followed with the famous players on show being Luke 'Quentin Hann' Purchase, James 'The Maltese Falcon' Lovett (Tony Drago) and Chris 'Nugget' Saunders (aka Steve Davis). A few epic frames and the Devon boys putting on their usual performance (!!!!!!!) we decided for a quiet evening at the cinema. Untraceable was on the menu (bit of a Turkey) and the evening was done!
Our final day in Wellington was an ultimate chill out. It consisted mostly of sitting in front of a computer writing the blog, hitting the sports bar for some lunch and then sitting in front of the computer writing the blog! That's what you get for not keeping up to date with your homework. Some general all round banter in the evening and it was time again for another early night. It was time to get this North Island show on the road. Taupo here we come!
