Arrived in Auckland in the evening for our final stop before we spread our wings and go our separate ways. A quick pit stop at the hostel and it was off for a bite and watch Indiana Jones. More than a little disappointed we headed back to the hostel. Matt, Andy and Chris popped into the hostel bar for a couple of wine gums with the couple from Byron Bay and after a great little evening we retired. Tomorrow would be our last day as a six!
Up at a reasonable time. Jack headed off to get his tatoo finished by the most sort after artist in NZ whilst the other lads had a bit of breakfast before heading off to the outlets. Having gotten on wrong bus and pulled a lap of the city and ended up back where we started, we decided to jump in a taxi. We had heard of ridiculous cheap prices but the lads behaved and didn't give their wallets too much trouble. Back to the city and it was a chance for one last bit of shopping. We had a final night to get ready for. First though we treated ourselves to a roast dinner with Yorkshire puddings from the local pub and presented Matt with some sheep based banter. Now since we have been on tour Matt has had a little stick about his boxer shorts that he has clearly stolen from a pensioner. However for our final big night out he would now be wearing the finest silky sheep boxers shorts that we could get our hands on. Nice! Back to Base to don the team T-shirts and headed for the bar. The night was treated as a send off for Matt and a bit of an early b-day bash. Intentions were clear from the start and as soon as Andy 'Big Bucks' Rossiter treated us to a $22 (8 GBP) bottle of champagne we knew we were in for a random one! Some saucy drinks later and it was off to one Showgirls. Well boys will be boys. After a brief stint it was then onto a couple more bars. Banter between destinations was rife and it's safe to say there's a few 7-11 shop assistants out there who know exactly what a fine pair of red silky sheep boxers look like! Classic! Back into the home bar and it was time to round off in style. The night seemed like a real celebration. We felt we had a lot to celebrate! After a ridiculously funny night that went onto a time unknown to man we were done. Awesome.
The next day it was up early to see the the Devon lads off. Afterwards it was a big day of sorting stuff out, catching some Z's, getting up to date with everything etc That evening we had one final meal and took in our last moments of New Zealand. Surreal.
So how to sum up New Zealand. Well first we've got to thank the Devon boys. To say we were gutted when they left is an understatement. We didn't just hang around with these lads we traveled with them. With OZ (not forgetting the hero Fletcher) and 4 weeks solid of sharing in everything we did, we couldn't have found some better boys to do it with. We've had the best times of our lives and these boys have been a massive part of it! The laughs have been ridiculous (if not illegal) and we hate to think what it'd have been like if we hadn't rolled with them. It was solid gold. We'll miss you boys and all we can say is get ready for the re-union. It's going to be an absolute mofo! You better give Devon an advanced warning! Lads - an absolute pleasure and we just wish you were coming South America!
Also we're saying goodbye to Matt. How do you let a man like this go home? For four months straight this man has been dynamite. Words literally fail us. Some say it can be hard to travel in such a close knit group but this guy has made it easy. We've had the most amazing experiences ever over the last four months and this man has been part of all of them. The times he's had us on the floor in tears of laughter is unreal. If we compiled a top five funny moments it'd be hard to edge this man out of any of them. It's truly gutting to watch this man go. Matt all we can do is thank you. Your an amazing mate and we're going to miss you. We'll be down the Vally's before you know it! Keep it lit!
And as for New Zealand itself. Could this place be the most amazing country on earth? We've bungy jumped, sky dived, luged, white water rafted, ridden mountain bikes, done some amazing walks, fished, whale watched, dolphin watched, lake jumped, fancy dressed, jet boated and a s*** load more. And we've done them all in the most beautiful place any of us have seen packed with the friendliness people we've ever met. The scenery has been breathtaking and we've made the absolute most of it. We've lived like our pants have been on fire - literally at a hundred miles an hour. It's been insane. We can't recommend this place enough. You probably could never have too much of it. It's going to be hard to say goodbye. The Kiwi Bus was also amazing. Again we met loads of people that we simply will never forget and we couldn't think of a better way for getting around NZ. It was electric.
The last 4 weeks have been the most insane, heart pumping, adrenaline fueled, risk taking, laughter filled, party hitting madness probably known to man! Again another chapter done. And what a chapter. New Zealand we thank you!
