The journey from San Cristobal took us down 2000 meters through the Sierra Madre del Sur, a stomach turning 4 hours of road before hitting Agua Azul N.P. more green than blue but a much needed break from the drive. The journey to Palenque also stopped at the more striking waterfalls of Misol-Ha where we walked behind the waterfall (see photos) and took us through some Zapatista checkpoints.
A mischievous monkey called Montezuma hitched a ride from San Cristobal on the back of Chris´ bag and sneaked his way into a few photos in Palenque.
The following day we went on an "indigenous jungle experience" A day full of more Mayan ruins finished in a bug filled camp site own by some locals. Chris found a spider in his shoe in the morning and Lucy wouldnt dare venture out from the protection of the mosquito net. The next morning we went on a "nature walk" which turned into a hasty 4 hour stomp through the jungle led by a monosyllabic local but took us to a gorgeous secluded waterfall where we took a dip and a shower under the cascades.
Last night we caught a luxurious night bus to the capital of the Yucatan, Merida where it´s raining for the first time on our trip. We will be here for 2 nights and are visiting Haciendas and Caves tomorrow before Chichen Itza and the Yucatan coast.
