Hello
WOW.. that is really the only way to discribe Kong Lor cave. I say cave and feel that it doesnt quite do it justice. Its a 7km long river that runs all the way under a mountain.. yes that right under a mountain.. and we took a boat though it!!! (when i say boat but i mean longtail.. you can only fit a max of 2 people and the drivers on it).
Some of the chambers we went though were massive, we are taking the size of a theatre and not a small pocky theatre we talking albert hall dimentions. It was colossal and dark. Not an ounce of light. At first it was a little scary being driven thought complete black with only a head touch to guide you but you soon got used to it.It kind of reminded me of Tolkien's mines of moria! Chris has decided that it would be an epic place to have a gig.. watch out Laos!
It was an amazing experince. It was really weird coming out the other side of the mountain after an hour of darkness. In true Laos style, on the way back we saw a small longtail with 2 Laos chaps in it and a motobike! its pitch black and dry season so in some parts of the river/cave you have to get out and pull the boat over the rocks yet still they manage it.. bloody brilliant!! To be honest i dont know why we were surprised.. earler that day we got in a van/tuktuk with a few other people and by the time we set off for our destination we had 14 people, 2 children, 2 big TV's, numerous boxes, a massive satellite dish, and a bike straped onto the side!
Laos is Awsome!!!!
We are heading into cambodia in a couple of days so we might not be able to write for a while.
lots of love to everyone!!!!!!
hannah and chris
