Alright peeps,
We spent our last few days in Laos chilling out on a small island in the Mekong river called Don Det. They say that there are four thousand island in that part of the Mekong but i suppose it depends on what you class as an island. We spent a day cycling around the island (which is thankfully very flat) seeing waterfalls and swimming. We can also clame to have seen dolphins. We got taken out into the middle of the Mekong river and dumped on a large rock from which we saw the fresh water Irrawaddy dolphins.. chris has photographic evidence of some black fin like things in the distance!
Crossing into Cambodia was really exciting and you can see the differnce in the people here. They are really cheeky and sarcastic.. im loving it! And its really quite flat. They also have kamikaze cows that jump out in front of buses.. i wonder if this is a game for those bovine adrenaline junkies.. you know what cows are like!
Our first couple of days we spent in the north east in a place called Ban Lung. It was new year over here and the whole of cambodia was in party mode. They get 3 or 4 days off work over the new year and seem to spend the whole time drinking and partying with there families... its brilliant and where ever we went there was a party. We went swimming in a massive lake that was once a volcano..really cool and loads of cambodians having a brilliant time. Oh and we had a shower in a waterfall.. awsome!
We also accidentally ordered duck embro! How do you do that you ask? well really quite simpley when everyone seems to be really enjoying these steamed eggs and munching them down like theres no tommorrow. Its a bit of a shock to crack open you egg (hoping that it has a runny middle and maybe you could find some soilders from some where to dip in it) to find a formed baby duck feathers, beak and all!
Siem Reap was our next stop and Chris's birthday.. woohoo we had cocktails! His brithday was really quite epic, we spent the day at the 8th wonder of the world... Temples of Angkor! We got up at 4am so we could see the sun rise over Angkor wat and spent the rest of the day ambling around ancient temples.. very tomb raider with trees growing out of them! All in all bloody brilliant!
Now we'r off to explore the capital
much love
hannah and chris xxxx
