We might even come back....
OK, sorry it's been a while but we got kinda bored & side tracked by beaches & diving..... We decided to take a 2 day trip on 'that' river (I'm beginning to think there's only 1 in this part of the world...) which conveniently gets us over the Vietnamese border to Phnom Pehn. It started off lovely with a brief minivan journey & a pretty decent Engrish speaking guide. After a boat trip across the river we first went to a Coconut candy village where they make sweets and just about everything else, strangely enough out of coconut. Somehow I managed to get a 6 month old Python round my neck - she either wanted to give me a kiss or strangle me (I know how she felt - Em). Then we had a trip to a bee making village or something like that. After lunch we were put onto a rather interesting local bus that was already crammed full. The luggage storage had gone rusty so our tour guide bribed the fat bus guy to let us take our bags on the bus (there were 11 of us by now). He was more than happy to do this & proceeded to throw all the bags through the windows at us, at which point the tour guide disappeared. We then endured a rather hilarious 6 hour journey to the border town of Chau Doc which consists of precisely nothing... So we got an early night. Back on the boat the next day & it was a very nice peaceful trip on 'that flippin' river' again to the border. Lots of waiting around hugging our bags cos the tour guide said the kids there weren't very nice.... Onto another boat for the first leg of Cambodia & what a difference!!! Vietnam had some form of settlement along 90% of the river but in Cambodia we didn't see anyone for half an hour. We got off the boat for an hour drive into Phnom Pehn & got our first taste of Cambodian roads - don't sit at the back unless you want to try making ventilation holes with your head.
