I wasn't too sure if i would do any diving when we got here. Maybe a couple of days & move on to the next place. Then I decided to just go for it & jump straight in at the shallow end. It felt very unusual to have homework to do when on holiday, but that wasn't the bad part - the instructor said no beer in the evenings!!!!!! AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!! Having cried myself to sleep on night 1 I pulled it together & got under the water (having puked after doing 4 lengths of the pool in a wet suit - it was really, really tight. Honest).
I loved the diving so much that I just had to do more. So once I'd finished the Open Water course i booked straight onto the advanced. So I had to do five different types of dive - Night dive, Navigation, Deep dive (30m), Multi-level & Naturalist. I said NaturaList!!!! Looking at fishes & stuff you sicko's. I had been promised the opportunity to see some reef sharks by the instructor (from Stourbridge), but all previous attempts had to be cancelled due to the water being too choppy. So once I'd finished the 2nd course i booked a fun dive & promptly got surrounded by 6 2m long reef sharks.... Knew I shouldn't have taken that dead chicken with me.
After the open water course, we all went to watch the local Muay Thai. The first fight involved a couple of what looked 12 year olds going hell for leather. They even had a couple of people from the dive resort fighting - a girl from SA vs the local pot washer! It was an enjoyable evening, but the music really gets on your nerves after a bit.
All in all we spent 10 days on Koh Tao & thoroughly enjoyed it. Emma got to spend 10 days on the beach / in the bar waiting for me.....
