Yes, I know we arrived in Australia over a month ago, but we've like sooooooooooooooo busy or something!
Anyway, got into Darwin in the middle of the night & it was roasting! Very, very, very, very, very nice to be back in an English speaking (sort of) country though. Until we discovery how much things are going to cost over here.... Ouchy!
Lots of very nice people to help us out though & we make it to the backpackers with minimal fuss. Dorm time!!! We walked into the 6 bed dorm trying to be as quiet as possible & without turning the lights on, but end up standing there looking stupid for 5 minutes until someone walks in, gives us a funny look & turns the light on...
Couple of days in Darwin walking around & doing that novel thing of cooking for ourselves sees us ready to hire a car & head off into the great Unknown, aka Kookookachoo or something like that. So off we head having bought a tent, a camping stove & nothing else. A day into we realise that Esky's (ice boxes) are pretty necessary when the temperature gets up to the high 30's. So we buy one. And some ice.
A couple of days driving around Kakadu staying at campsites & we've not seen any Crocodiles, Kangaroos, Wallabies, Snakes, Possums. Nothing except roads & road trains - they are huge, but fun to over take.
Finally, we get to a camp site that is frquented by wallabies & the little &(*^)%&^$&'s go through our rubbish.
Off to Katherine Gorge for a couple of nights. Lovely scenery lovely looking river, Chem decide to do an 8km walk. Get back & find out it's actually 45 degrees.... oops. Chem finds Air-con.
Litchfield National park - free camp site, HUGE thunder storm, very scared. But more amused by the Aussies away for the weekend who get drunk & have a fight. One storms off before the storm to shout of "I love ya, Maaaaaate" "He's me best maaaaaaate" etc etc. Not heard from again.
And i've got 2 mins left on the internet!!!!!!
We flew to Cairns
