Tuesday morning, we headed out nice and early to Versailles. It was a really busy place on that gorgeous day! Waiting in line for entrance, security and audio guides took over an hour.
Once we were all set up, we toured the beautiful palace, which is coated floor-to-ceiling and wall-to-wall with marble, gold and art. It is such a luxurious place… and that's only the inside. The real beauty of Versailles is the never-ending gardens that seem to have a fountain or a sculpture around every corner.
The combined luxury of the palace and the gardens make it easy to understand why the French people revolted against their monarchy.
After a full day at the palace, we drove into Paris. Getting into the city wasn't that bad, as most of the rush hour traffic was leaving the city. The biggest issue was that all the "big-city" signals were messing up our GPS, which made navigating a bit difficult.
In spite of the technical difficulties, we found our hotel and returned our rental car. We enjoyed a relaxing night with a dinner out and a walk around the arc de triomphe, which was right around the corner from our hotel.
