Sunday was a really big driving day. We started in Italy and ended up in France, crossing Switzerland along the way. Three countries in one day - breakfast in Italy, lunch in Switzerland, and supper in France.
We left northern Italy and drove through a huge mountain tunnel and entered Switzerland - which was an uneventful crossing. Switzerland is not part of the EU, so I was expecting a big deal at the border, but they didn't even stop us.
We were going to have lunch in Lausanne, but when we arrived in town we were reminded that everything, even restaurants, are closed on Sundays. Instead, we had lunch at a truck stop.
From there, we continued driving and crossed the French border... Again they didn't even stop us.
We gradually made our way through heavy Paris traffic and found our hotel in Versailles. In typical Parisian fashion, the city was still bustling at 10pm. We went to a creperie and enjoyed our French cuisine and then went back to the hotel for a much needed sleep.
