Yesterday we went to Nagasaki and it was a very interesting trip. The first stop was at the museum to view the story, pictures and old pieces of rubble found later after the attack. We walked across to the hyper centre where they had a monument, interesting to see bunches of flowers laid at the sight. The next stop was at Peace Park where we were able to walk around and view all of the monuments from countries around the world. Next stop was lunch - this was a traditional Japanese lunch at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. To follow there was a trip to Glover's House, however most decided not to do it and wandered up an old shopping street and then walked back to the ship.
Dinner in the dining room was interesting as usual and it was Italian night so the menu was built around that. The Maitre D cooked the pasta in front of us, so one felt they had to try it.
This morning wasn't such an early start and our coach left at 9.00am for Aoshima Island, a good hours journey through scenic bush. The walk to the temple took about 15 minutes and then there was a photo stop at the top of the hill to admire the Pacific Ocean. There is a lot of rock and they call the stone Devils Washboard. The final stop was to the Sochu Brewery - the alcohol is between 35 and 50 percent alcohol proof, the suggestion is to water it down. Many flavours available, but we didn't purchase. I thought the first sample I tried was much like a violent cough mixture.
Now we are back on board and set off again in about an hour with another day at sea.
