We got a bus back to Yangonthis afternoon which was yet another nightmare! We had been told by a fellow traveller that the roads were flooded between Bagan and Yangon and passengers luggage had got wet and muddy and it was stowed beneath the seats. It was however our only way to get back to Yangon in time for our flight so we had to do it! We stopped at about 8pm and basically queued to get through the water. Some locals were using mud to build a makeshift road to enable buses and other vehicles to get across. The only problem here was that it had to be rebuilt each time something went over it! We finally got through and back on the road at 10:45. The rest of the journey was equally annoying, every time we woke up we had stopped on the roadside for no apparent reason. We got to the bus station over 4 hours behind schedule which wasn't as bad as we originally thought but when we arrived at the hotel it was already booked up. We had no choice but to pay extra for its sister hotel which was round the corner.
In the evening we went to meet Al and Ryans friend Tinwin who invited us into his home to chat with his friends. He applied the local make-up to my cheeks made from bark and water telling Bradley he didn't need to worry about him touching me as he thinks of me not as a lover but as a friend! He kept looking at Bradley and saying please my friend do not get angry! We went to a local restaurant that sold just rice & noodles (great) then he took us to a club. He explained to us that they open at 9pm and close about midnight. Alex told Tinwin that in England most of our clubs open alot later and sometimes close at 4 or 5am. Tinwin replied 'oh they don't let us sleep in our clubs' classic!!
The club was a strange experience but worth a look, how many people can say that they have been clubbing in Myanmar? The dancefloor had been taken over by a fashion show (if you could call it that) it reminded me of tryouts for Hanworth Carnival Queen back in the early 90's except nobody looked pleased to be there! So we couldn't dance and the boys had a growing audience of eager prostitutes waiting in the wings, ready to swoop down on them. Needless to say I don't think they liked me very much!!
The following morning we got our flight back to Bangkok and had to say farewell to Al at the airport and then Ryan later that evening. Booked our bus to Krabi for the following day so it was goodbye to Bangkok for the final time!
