Hello all you lovely people.
The past couple of days have been absolutely crazy! We left Port Macquarie yesterday morning at ridiculous o'clock. Literally got up at 5 - there were people cycling - KEEN!
Caught the greyhound to Sydney which took about 7 hours but it went so quickly...I looked up from my book and we were crossing the Harbour Bridge, a very surreal view. Seeing the Opera House was so cool after always seeing it in pictures and on TV, it is just as spectacular in the flesh. So then we were in Central Station, in the middle of Sydney and we had to find a hostel. However, it turns out that Sydney on a Saturday night is pretty busy and all the hostels in Central were full so we made our way out to King's Cross - basically where the party's at!
We asked in about 20 hostels but they were all full...we were just about giving up hope and going to ring the girls we made friends with in Byron (who live in Sydney) to ask if we could come and stay - when we asked in Kanga Backpackers, a little homely hostel just off the main street, they had two beds left in a girl's dorm! Never been so relieved.
We met a lovely girl in the dining room in the hostel and ended up taking a walk out to a viewing point across the harbour from the opera house and around the botanical gardens. It was very pretty but the weather isn't great at the moment, infact, it was actually peeing it down but it just made it entertaining and we have some pretty amusing photos from it.
Got back to the hostel and everyone had started drinking and was going out in the Cross but I have been pretty ill...had a sore throat and a chesty cough and just generally felt like s***, wasn't really feeling up to it and after speaking to my Mummy decided to take her expert advice and get an early night, which I'm so glad I did! :)
Woke up this morning feeling bright and much better! We got our free brekky and then headed out into the city. We went to the New South Wales art gallery which was really cool. We both really enjoyed it and ended up staying there for two and a half hours. Then we went to the State Library and saw a pretty cool photography exhibtion. Then, to the Opera House, it is very cool and I know we'll go there again before we leave, there's an amazing view of the Harbour Bridge from there too - Maz is pretty into her bridges and she loves it.
We also watched this pretty crazy contortionist near the Opera House, she actually got her entire body into a 16"x16" box. It was crazy! We went for a walk up to the Rocks which is just a nice part of the city and then tried to find our way back to the hostel from there without using a map - quite amusing, did actually have to succumb to the map in the end.
Got back and had a free BBQ at the hostel and then went out for dinner in Chinatown with Marie's friend Ani who she met in Nepal (he lives in Sydney) had a $10 all you can eat buffet which was lovely!!! :)
Then we just walked to Darling Harbour, very beautiful at night and then back to the hostel via a rather long winded route but very lovely. Oh, and Ani bought us TIM TAMS !! The best chocolate biscuit in the world. Kinda like a penguin but better! So there it is, I'm caught up! Sweet life. Sydney is awesome but can;t wait to see the Blue Mountains. Be back here for a big night on Friday though! Hahaha and to see Auntie Debs and that on Weds/Thurs/Fri :) Anyway, I'm rambling so I'm gonna head off, another early morning tomorrow! Love you all <3 xxx
