This morning I decided to do a bit of browsing of the shops in Cairns. I didn't fancy doing an excursion as I have a busy day tomorrow, so just wondered the shops at my own pace! The shopping centre was huge so I had plenty to keep me occupied. I needed to clean my Oakleys after my trip to Whitsundays left them in a dire state. So I popped into a shop to ask if they sold anything to clean them with. The sales assistant showed me the spray and wipes and even demonstrated how it worked. The spray worked really well! So well in fact, that i didn't need it anymore! So I didn't buy anything and left. I think they missed a trick, but I'm not complaining it saved me $25.
I then escaped the heat and paused for a few hours by watching Oblivion in the cinema- the new Tom Cruise film! Was one you really have to stay with or you'll be lost, but ultimately I enjoyed it! Missed watching a decent film and just being totally involved with a good loud action scene made me very happy!
After the movie I caught back up with the sisters from my room. They had never been to Nando's so we decided to go there for a meal out as tonight was our last night in Australia! The food wasn't the same as home but was good enough! Although I was a bit disappointed as I built up Nando's so much, and it wasn't as impressive as at home.
I've started to get the impression lots of things here are done half heartedly. Just little things... Customer services isn't a big deal over here. No going the extra mile. They just do enough. Same with the food, hence the Nando's disappointment. Even the signs explaining tourist attractions read as if they were written in ten minutes where as at home it wouldn't surprise me if we had comities for these things. - maybe that's a good thing though. The emphasis isn't so much on work and more on life. Work just pays the bills. Maybe we make to much effort on stuff that makes no difference to whether we get paid more? So does it benefit us? The Brits bring work home with them, do unpaid overtime just to do a better job. Is all that hard work a good thing? Bit of a thought for everyone...do we work to hard and not play enough?
Anyway enough self evaluation, my head hurts!
We went out for an ice cream after the Nando's had been walked off and then packed our stuff before I finished the last pages of my book with a beer.
