I had to get up early today to check-out of my hostel at 10 and then wait around to check back in to a different room at 2. This was a bit of an annoyance really as I had to pack all my stuff up and leave it down in the lobby, before bringing it back up later in the day. While I waited to check back in, me and two others from my original room decided to attempt a walk to the lighthouse at Byron, Australia's most easterly point. We walked for about 10 minutes before getting to the start of the cape. The wind really kicked in and the rain started falling. After 30 seconds we were soaked so gave up and made a dash back to the hostel.
Its was starting to get a bit frustrating, I had come all the way across the world expecting lovely sun soaked beaches and haven't really had it for more than a day. I passed the time cooking lunch and after half an hour on my bed I saw the weather clearing so quickly put some shoes on and tried again for the lighthouse. This time I was on my own and finding the way was more difficult than I originally thought. Luckily though I saw 2 girls who had a similar problem, so we teamed up and found the way there. The girls were from Bristol, it was the first time I've met anyone from UK so was really nice to hear a familiar accent. Still waiting to meet another Welshman. It was a really nice walk, the girls were cool, the weather cleared up and was nice to make the most of the day!
I then did some more food shopping ready for my meal tonight and then had a final beer with the guys from my old room before saying goodbye!
I'm loving meeting all these new people but walking back to my new room I felt a bit sad. I've had to say goodbye a few times to really good people and I'm sure ill have to do it again. Lets just hope we keep in touch!
