I apologise in advance about the topic I'm about to write about but it was defiantly an experience and this blog is all about sharing those experiences.... I woke up this morning and decided to use the facilities - if that's what you can call them... And as I was doing so I looked out of an awkwardly positioned window and realised I was looking at Mount Everest! Now how many people get to say they have had a leak in front of the top of the world!! I did chuckle to myself! -Don't say I didn't warn you!
Anyway, returning to normal service!
We descended out of Tangbouche this morning off the ridge before climbing again to Dingbouche. As we left the village down the mountain it was bitterly cold as the sun haven't yet risen and hence there was a sizeable amount of ice on our downward path! As if that wasn't a dangerous enough combination, we had to share the path with about 50 yaks!! Now yaks if you don't know, are big hairy cow like creatures with horns that are used to transport supplies across the Himalayas. Known to be unpredictable at the best of time we all proceeded with caution!
Your always told to keep mountain side of yaks when passing them, as every guide has a story of a careless trekker being knocked off a cliff one. With that in mind we began over taking the slow convoy! However, I got to a point where there were 5 of the 50 stood still in an awkward position and Me and Sam had no choice but to go past cliff side!
As I brushed past, one yak turned and sent another stumblinga my way! Thankfully I jumped forward and Sam jumped back! After much more sensible overtaking, and a lot of waiting around as the yaks slipped on ice, we eventually got a clear path and got on our way!
Since Namche the trekking route has been much less quiet, and I'm enjoying it even more because of it! I feel much more out of my comfort zone now and really in the wilderness between tiny communities! Much more like what I was expecting! I actually feel like I'm on my way to Base Camp Everest!
When we arrived at Dingbouche the clouds had spoilt our view as they always do from 3 onwards! But I think it makes the morning so much better, because when I wake up and pull back the price of material pretending to be a curtain, the sky is crispy clear and I get the surprise if seeing all this gorgeous scenery I didn't see the day before! So let's hope the view is just as stunning in the morning tomorrow!
