Arrived in South Africa late afternoon after a rather turbulent flight - much to Curt's delight! And stayed at a Premier Inn style hotel for the night (a bit of a let down compared to our Dubai hotels!!) ready to get picked up in the morning for our 4 night Safari :).
Day 6
Our transfer arrived and we began the 2.5 hr journey to St Lucia (not the Carribean!). We arrived in St Lucia, a small town and checked into our lodge. A wonderful room located in a 'jungle setting' with streams filled with coy carp passing through, plenty of trees towering over us, as well as a swimming pool and an honesty bar where we are free to have a drink whenever we fancy by helping ourselves and filling out the tab.
We got picked up for our first tour at 3.30pm - Hippo and Croc Cruise on the St Lucia Estuary. Unfortunately due to the cold weather the crocodiles did not make an appearance as they like to stay fully submerged in the water to keep warm. However, we saw plenty of hippos with up to 45 members in one family!
After our long day we went out for a lovely bite to eat in a local restaurant in town called Braza which only came to £18!! Not bad for 2 beers, a glass of wine, starters and a meal each! Went back to the lodge to help ourselves to the honesty bar before calling it a night for an early 5am start to head out for our Big Five Safari.
