Charly's Travel Journal
One thing you have to get used to being in Fiji is 'Fiji time'. The Fijians are so relaxed they even have their own timescale-which is great for making you feel relaxed or if you're running late for something, but in cases such as ordering food and having to wait an hour for it to arrive,or as we experienced this morning, when you are told your pick-up time is 9am and the bus doesnt' turn up til 10.15(meaning you could have had an extra hour in bed...!!)its not so great...
Anyway, once we had been picked up we travelled for an hour in one of Fiji's 'state-of-the-art' buses (you know...the type with no suspension...!)to reach the place where we would board the boat. This time, inside of a cruise boat or a ship,we climbed onto little motorised boats are were driven down the river and out into the sea to Robinson Crusoe Island. On reaching the island we were shown to our dorms and then spent the rest of the day kayaking in the sea,snorkelling,fishing,crab-racing and lying on the beach. Over lunch we were treated to a fabulous dance show by some of the Fijians who work on the island, including an amazing fire-show(i have videos so i shall try to upload them). In the afternoon we also rode on the 'Jet Fiji' speedboat. Lauren and I were the only too on the boat, and I don't think I've ever been on such a fast boat. We went spedding right across the water, doing 360-turns,narrowly dodging obstacles and boats, and even drove right for the fishing boat that had just gone out from the island, and at the last minute did a 360 turn and avoided it. I'm sure the driver knew what he was doing, but it was pretty scary...very exciting too though, and the driver sounded like he was having as much fun as we were.
In the evening we had a delicious dinner, with fish smoked on hot stones, and then jopined in some silly island games. At sunset we went and sat on the beach by a bonfire and had a sing-a-long while one of the entertainers played the guitar. Absolutely beautiful, and very chilled out evening. We stayed overnight until the next day(had our 'shower' in the pool,as all the water on the island except drinking water was sea water, and the showers were just contraptions with buckets)got free massages, relaxed on the beach, and travelled back to the hostel for my last night in Fiji.
Lots of love xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
